My mileage is turn ON for auto tracking. All the specifics in troubleshooting are turn Ed ON. Yet it very inconsistent, and almost never updates.

My auto tracking doesn’t appear to be working. Why not? Everything is turned ON. For example. I’ll drive to work for an entire week and it won’t recognize a single trip to and from work. Then I go skiing on the weekend and it almost immediately recognizes that trip. It makes no sense. I am not changing any settings and I always have my phone with me. I’m having to manually add all my trips, which defeats the purpose of auto tracking.

I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting and providing detailed examples regarding the inconsistencies in your mileage tracking, JL458902. Since you haven’t changed anything in your account settings, let’s review the general location settings on your phone to ensure nothing was overlooked. I’ll provide more information below.

First, we can only track mileage if we're signed in as a user with admin privileges for the company file.

Next, let's make sure you have auto-tracking turned on in your QuickBooks mobile app so you can seamlessly track your mileage.

Here’s how you can do it:

If you're using an iPhone or iPad, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Tap the menu icon, which looks like three horizontal lines.
  3. Go to All and then tap on Mileage.
  4. There, you’ll see an option that says Auto-track your miles. Go ahead and select that.
  5. The app will then ask for permission to Allow location access.

If you're on an Android phone or tablet, follow these steps below:

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Select the menu ☰ icon.
  3. Select Mileage.
  4. Turn on the Auto-tracking switch.
  5. Give QuickBooks permission to track your location. This will vary depending on your Android Operating System.
    • For Android OS version 10 and below:
      • For location permissions, select Allow. If prompted, select Allow all the time.
      • If you are prompted to allow access to your physical activity, select Allow.
    • For Android OS version 11 and above:
      • For location permissions select While using the app, then select Ok (if prompted). Then select Allow all the time.
      • If you are prompted to allow access to your physical activity, select Allow.

If the previous steps were unsuccessful, we can try clearing the app's data.

Here's how:

  1. Open your device Settings.
  2. select Apps (varies by device).
  3. Choose QuickBooks app from the list, then select Storage.
  4. Select clear data.

My mileage is turn ON for auto tracking. All the specifics in troubleshooting are turn Ed ON. Yet it very inconsistent, and almost never updates.

Im guessing since the auto-tracking is working at least part of the time, that I must be logged in as an admin, otherwise it wouldn’t work at all, right? I don’t know how to tell if I’m admin?

I’ve done your other troubleshooting and that was already all correct. The last suggestion to clear the apps storage doesn’t direct me properly,

I appreciate you returning to this thread and following some of what my colleague has shared. Allow me to join the conversation and assist you in resolving this issue further.

First, you’re correct that you need to be logged in as an admin to enable auto-tracking for mileage. However, the QuickBooks Online app currently doesn't have a feature to confirm your admin status. Thus, I recommend ensuring that you're using the correct admin account credentials.

Regarding your iPhone and the storage settings, I appreciate your clarification. Since you're using iPhones, please follow these steps instead to clear the app storage:

  1. Navigate to your phone’s app list and tap on the Settings gearbox.

  2. Scroll down and select General.

  3. Tap iPhone Storage, then locate the QuickBooks app.

  4. Choose Offload App to clear app-related data without deleting it. Once done, reinstall the app to refresh its performance.

Moreover, here are some tips to keep in mind during work trips:

  • Follow the steps from Apple. Set your device's location services for QuickBooks to Always. For the most accurate trip tracking, turn on Motion & Fitness permissions.
  • We recommend not using the Low Power Mode feature when you're tracking miles, as it may stop apps running in the background, including QuickBooks.
  • If you use the Do Not Disturb feature, ensure it's turned off and scheduled to stay off during trips. If you leave it on, it may close the QuickBooks mobile app.
  • Your phone should not be connected to a Wi-Fi network while driving, as the trip won’t record correctly. Thus, ensure your device tracks accurately by turning off the Wi-Fi setting before the trip.
  • The app needs iOS 12.2 or later to work accurately.

If you’ve tried all the steps and the issue persists, I recommend contacting our phone support team. They have the necessary tools and expertise to check the cause of this issue further.

I’ve done everything that’s been suggested and still won’t work.
You have a link to contact “phone support team” but when I click it. It just goes to a standard contact us page with no email, no phone #, nothing. Just what looks like hours to try chat. I’ve tried chat before and nobody ever responded. There’s gotta be a better way to fix this.
