I'm trying to pay an expense that is GST exempted for $30 but when I select expense it is showing it less the 5% gst. Can anyone explain why?

Hey kleebaum-k,

Recording these types of transactions properly plays a large role in setting yourself up for easy filings. QuickBooks really excels at giving you control over your numbers, so you can always be sure to do it exactly the way you need. The easiest way to unlock full customization powers over your taxes is to ensure amounts are set to Exclusive of Tax. This makes it simple to edit the amounts in the subtotal.

If that doesn't work, I'd really like to take a closer look at your account to see exactly what's happening. Please choose from the methods below to get in touch with an agent, as they'll have additional tools to help get to the bottom of this.

Phone and Chat: Click Contact Us to learn how to reach phone and chat support.

Schedule a Callback: click (?)Help in the upper right > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback (Note: Callback hours are the same as regular phone hours.)

Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET

Don't be afraid to reach out! I want to make sure this gets sorted.
