Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online
by Intuit•21• Updated about 22 hours ago
If your account statement and QuickBooks transactions are different after an account reconciliation, you can remove individual transactions from the reconciliation.
Prerequisites
Only unreconcile a transaction if you’re sure an account balance is wrong because of it. You could have reconciled it by mistake, or it might be an error you need to delete.
- Check that the balance isn’t wrong because you entered the wrong opening, beginning, and ending balances during reconciliation.
- Compare the transaction in QuickBooks to how it was recorded your account statement for the reconciled period. If it isn’t there, you should unreconcile it.
You may want to talk to your accountant first.
Unreconcile a transaction
You can only unreconcile one transaction at a time.
- Go to Transactions and select Chart of accounts (Take me there).
- Find the account with the transaction and select Account history.
- Find the transaction in the list. If it was reconciled, you’ll see an “R” in the tick ✔ column.
- Select the transaction.
- In the tick ✔ column, select the checkbox with the “R” until the checkbox is blank.
- Select Save.
- Select Yes to confirm.
Next steps
Your accounts should now be balanced and accurate. If you made an adjustment to a past reconciliation or still have problems with your reconciliation, reach out to your accountant. This can get tricky and they know how to handle the next steps. Don't have an accountant? We can help you find one.
If you need to start over, reach out to your accountant. Only accountants can undo a completed reconciliation.
