Add or edit a tax rate in the QuickBooks mobile app (iOS only)

Learn how to add or edit a tax rate using the QuickBooks mobile app.

Do you want to add or change a tax rate using your iPhone or iPad? In this article, we'll show you how to use the QuickBooks mobile app.

Add a tax

iPhone

1. From the Menu ☰, tap Settings .
2. Tap Tax Rates.
   Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: Tap Add tax rate to get started.
3. Tap Add a new tax rate, then tap whether that rate is Single or Combined.
4. Tap the plus icon +, then select Single sales tax rate or Combined sales tax rate.
5. Enter the following information about the tax rate:
   • Single rate: Add the information for each component (Tax Rate name, Agency, and Rate).
   • Combined rate: Add the information for each component (Combined Tax Rate name, Tax Rate Name, Agency, and Rate).
     Note: Combined tax rates can include new and existing rates.
6. Tap Save.

iPad

1. From the Menu ☰, tap Settings .
2. Tap Tax Rates.
   Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: Tap Add tax rate to get started.
3. Tap Add a new tax rate, then tap whether that rate is Single or Combined.
4. Tap New Tax, then select Single Rate or Combined Rate.
5. Enter the following information about the tax rate:
   • Single rate: Add the information for each component (Tax Rate name, Agency, and Rate).
   • Combined rate: Add the information for each component (Combined Tax Rate name, Tax Rate Name, Agency, and Rate).
     Note: Combined tax rates can include new and existing rates.
6. Tap Save.

Change a tax rate

iPhone

You can edit single and combined tax rates (including their names). However, you can't edit the name of a tax agency associated with the rate.

1. From the Menu ☰, tap Settings .
2. Tap Tax Rates.
3. Select the rate you want to edit.
4. Tap Edit ✎, then make your changes.
5. Tap Save.

iPad

You can't edit a tax rate on the iPad. However, you can edit a tax rate from QuickBooks Online on the web.

1. From a Mac or PC, sign in to QuickBooks Online.
2. Follow this link to complete the steps in product
3. Select Edit < Tax name > ▼ dropdown, then select Edit rates.
4. Find the tax rate you want edit.
5. Select the Edit link.
6. Make your changes, then select Save.

Change a tax rate in a transaction

You can also add or edit a tax rate within a transaction including estimates, invoices, and sales receipts.

iPhone

1. From the Menu ☰, tap Sales & Get Paid to open the estimate, invoice, or sales receipt with the tax rate you want to change.
2. Tap Edit ✎ or the Sales Tax section. A list of tax rates will appear.
3. Select the tax rate you want from the list, or tap + to create a new tax rate.
4. Edit the rate.
5. Tap Save.

iPad

1. From the Menu ☰, tap Sales & Get Paid to open the estimate, invoice, or sales receipt with the tax rate you want to change.
2. Tap Edit ✎ or the Sales Tax section. A list of tax rates will appear.
3. Next to Tax, tap the tax rate to see the list of available tax rates. If there is no tax available, tap Select Tax.
4. Select a tax rate from the list, or tap Create a new Tax Rate to create a new one.
5. Tap Save.
