SOLVEDby QuickBooksUpdated January 08, 2024

Here’s what you need to know about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation. This includes help information about how to move to QuickBooks Online.

Why are you discontinuing QuickBooks Desktop?

Helping you stay compliant is our priority. With the recent changes to accounting and tax regulations, and with more on the horizon, we have taken the decision to discontinue all QuickBooks Desktop services for our Ireland customers on 30 June, 2023. This includes all versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier and Enterprise.

We will notify you in advance (through email, in-product notifications and this page), to make sure that you have time to prepare and provide you with the best possible migration experience.

If you wish to download your data to move out of QuickBooks Desktop completely, follow these steps:

  1. Back up and save a copy of your desktop data file.

    3. Select the invoices for the year you want to download.
Note: You can download the entire year. We recommend downloading invoices by month if you have more than 25 invoices per month. You can print or download the invoices as a PDF and save them in a folder.
  4. Download and save copies of all your bank statements.
  5. In your new accounting system, enter the opening balances into your chart of accounts and import your customer and supplier lists.

You can use both products at the same time. If you choose to cancel your Desktop subscription, you can always resubscribe again as long as it's within 27 days of cancelling your subscription.

The decision to discontinue QuickBooks Desktop is localised to the UK only. This is due to market conditions, the new Making Tax Digital for VAT rules, and regular updates to tax requirements. Plus, the increasing demand for cloud-based applications is causing the decline of demand for desktop software.
