Change a VAT rate using the QuickBooks mobile app (Android only)

Learn how to change a VAT rate using the QuickBooks mobile app for Android.

While you can only add or edit VAT rates on QuickBooks Online for the web, you can view VAT rates and transactions on your Android device. For more information on VAT rates, check out how to set up and use Sales Tax.

Add a VAT rate

From QuickBooks mobile app:

  1. From the Menu ☰, tap Settings ⚙️, then tap Tax Rates.
    Note: If this is your first time, you'll see an introductory screen: tap Add tax rate to get started.
  2. Tap the plus icon +, then select Single tax rate or Combined tax rate.
  3. Enter information about the tax rate:
    • For a Single tax rate, add a Sales tax name, Agency, and Rate, and then tap Done.
    • For a Combined tax rate, add a Sales tax name, Component, Agency, and Rate, and then tap Done.
      Note: Combined VAT rates can include new and existing rates. Tap Combined tax rate if your tax agency makes you break down this tax into multiple parts, such as city, county, and state taxes.

Edit a VAT rate

From QuickBooks mobile app:

  1. From the Menu ☰, tap Settings ⚙️, then tap Tax Rates.
  2. Select the rate you want to edit.
  3. Tap Edit ✎ and make your changes.
  4. Tap Done.

Add a VAT rate during a transaction

If during a transaction you need to add a VAT rate, this can be be done easily before completing the transaction. Just set up a new VAT rate in order to complete the transaction.

  1. Open an quote or invoice.
  2. Tap Edit ✎.
  3. Tap Add Item, then tap +.
  4. Tap the Taxable checkbox, then tap Add.
  5. Tap Create Tax Rate.
  6. Enter your tax rate info.
  7. Tap Done.

Your new VAT rate will appear in your existing list of VAT rates.

Override a transaction VAT rate

If you want to see the tax override feature in the app, you need to first go to QuickBooks Online from the web and create your tax codes in the company file.

You can't edit a tax if you haven't selected any tax from the select Tax field, if you didn't select None when you select a tax, or if the transaction belongs to an old tax model.

  1. Open an quote, invoice, or sales receipt.
  2. Tap Edit ✎.
  3. Tap the Tax entry checkbox.
  4. Change the tax amount.
  5. Tap Done.
