Update billing, payment, and subscription info in QuickBooks Online

SOLVEDby QuickBooks8Updated 3 weeks ago

Learn how to manage your QuickBooks Online subscription, whether you need to update the card on file, change your subscription, or just view your billing history.

If you subscribed to QuickBooks Online through Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iPhone or iPad), use these steps from Google and Apple to manage your subscription:

Note: You will not be able to see the Subscriptions and billing tab if you have subscribed through an app store. You will only be able to see the Subscriptions and billing tab if you have subscribed through Intuit QuickBooks Online directly.

What do you want to do?

Learn about your subscription

If your account becomes inactive and you want to resubscribe, you have to use the same payment method and billing frequency you had on your previous subscription. You can switch to a different payment method and billing frequency after resubscribing.

Note: You can't sign up for an annual subscription initially. You can first sign up for a monthly subscription and complete the 30-day billing cycle before you switch to annual billing.

You need a credit or debit card for QuickBooks Online subscriptions. Customers can only use one card at a time - our system doesn't support payment split between more than one card. PayPal is also an acceptable form of payment.

To keep your account active, your card will be set up on a billing cycle. You'll have the option to pay on a monthly or annual basis.

Note: Currently, PayPal is not a supported payment option for customers subscribing to QuickBooks Online Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, or Mexico products.

Change your billing schedule

Before you update your payment schedule, here are a couple of things you should know:

  • When switching to a different billing schedule, you'll get a credit on your new plan based on the unused portion of your old plan.
  • When switching from annual to monthly billing:
    • You may have to wait until there are 30 days before your next payment.
    • You will get a refund for any unused portion of your old annual plan that we can't roll over as credit on your new plan.
    • If you want to renew a cancelled or terminated annual subscription as a monthly subscription, you must first renew it as an annual, then switch to monthly billing.

If you are subscribed to a QuickBooks Online plan:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Subscriptions and billing.
  3. Select Switch to monthly billing or Switch to annual billing.
  4. Select Switch, then Done.

Troubleshooting

We do our best to ensure things run smoothly, but sometimes small technical issues occur. Here are some error messages you might see when you update billing details.

  • Error -81624.
  • Something's not quite right.
  • It looks like there was a problem on our end. Select Save again.
  • Blank page/screen (unable to enter billing details).
  • Subscription-error billing. For example; We couldn't process your payment. Make sure your billing info is up to date.
  • The Save button is greyed out.

The good news is we can fix this. When you update your payment details, it is important to make sure:

  • Your billing address matches the company address in your QuickBooks Account and settings.
  • You have removed all special characters (such as ./:*'-") from your billing address.
  • Your Subscription and billing fields are all complete with accurate and up-to-date information. Avoid using auto-fill.

If you're still receiving an error message or are unable to update your billing details, clear your cache and cookies.
