Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Banof.

If you want to register for VAT and need your Corporation Tax UTR, it can be found in your Personal Tax Account, HMRC app, previous tax returns, or official documents from HMRC (e.g., payment reminders or notices to file).

If you are still unable to locate it, contact HMRC for assistance.

Here’s what you’ll need to register for VAT:

  • Business contact details
  • Bank account information
  • Unique Tax Reference (UTR)number (if you’re an incorporated business, like a limited company, this will be your business UTR. If you’re a sole trader, then it is your Self-Assessment UTR)
  • Turnover details and nature of your business

While the UTR is required for VAT registration, you don’t need to add the UTR to your account in QuickBooks unless you are CIS registered and using QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I'll include this article for more details: How to register for VAT online.

Alternatively, if you want to register for VAT for your Corporation Tax UTR, please note that these two are separate identifiers. The UTR is a 10-digit number for Corporation Tax, while VAT registration generates a distinct VAT number. However, your UTR may be required during VAT registration to verify your business details with HMRC.

I'll be right here to help with any QuickBooks questions or concerns. Just reach out anytime.
