Some of my clients can upload documents to the My Accountant/Shared Documents area and some can't. Do they need to be master admin to do this?

Hello Richard96,

Welcome to the Community page,

Have you sent your clients a request?

As you need to first send them a request for the clients to then be able to upload the documents.

Thanks - that did the trick! I did the request by normal email at first.

So it seems like:

Master admins - can see the 'upload' option from the start

Admins - can see the 'upload' option after the accountant has sent a request

Users - don't have access to the page at all

Does that sound right?

I can' find where to send the request for documents to the client from my accountant account.

Hello, PBKPG2020.

QuickBooks Online Accountant has a practice management feature. This lets you create 3 types of items to track your work:

  • Client requests
  • Projects
  • Tasks

You can create a client request to let them do something for you, like uploading a document or doing some work in the company. When you do so, QBOA generates an email, sending it to the client for you; in addition, QBOA helps you track the status of the document request. To request a document from a client, it will show in your client’s account under the My Accountant tab.

To send a client request:

  1. Go to the Work tab.
  2. Click Create client request.
  3. Fill out the necessary fields.
  4. Click Publish to client’s QuickBooks.

For now, only the accountant can create a request. To know more about this feature, check this article on how to manage and track your work with client requests, projects, and tasks

I'll be here if you need more help. We're open 24/7. Stay safe!
