Use monthly reviews to finish open tasks on your client's accounts

SOLVEDby QuickBooksUpdated over 1 year ago

Learn how to use the monthly review tool in QuickBooks Online Accountant to manage work for each client.

With so much going on for every client, it can be hard to keep track of specific tasks.

Use the monthly review tool to focus on the work that needs to be done, one client at a time. Each month, go into your clients' QuickBooks Online accounts. You'll see a list of all the open tasks you need to take action on, organised by type. This lets you quickly review and prioritise work so you can stay on top of all your bookkeeping.

Start a monthly review

Monthly reviews start from your client's QuickBooks Online account.

  1. Open one of your client's QuickBooks Online accounts.
  2. Select Accountant tools and then Monthly review.
  3. Select a month from the dropdown.
  4. Tasks are divided into three sections. Start with the Transaction Review tab.

Step 1: Fix transactions that need more details:

The Transaction Review tab shows transactions that may have missing or incorrect info. QuickBooks flags uncategorised transactions or ones with empty data fields. If data is missing, you'll see a blank line in the columns.

Select any transaction to open it and make corrections.

Want to go the extra mile? Go to the Additional items section. These are common tasks other top accounting firms do every month. Use them as part of your review.

If you want to add your own monthly tasks, select + Add and fill out the details.

Step 2: Reconcile accounts quickly

Go to the Account reconciliation tab. This lists accounts you need to reconcile.

Select any of the accounts to quickly start reconciling it. Use the last reconciled date as a guide. Outstanding transactions are counted in the Unaccepted and Unreconciled columns. This tells you how much work needs to be done in each account.

Tip: Are there accounts that cause issues when you reconcile? Go to the Additional items section and select + Add. Make a note to remind yourself to check them every month.

Step 3: Check for account balance issues

Finish your review in the Final review tab. This lists reports you should check each month. Select Review to open a report. QuickBooks automatically filters reports for the month you select.

These are reports most accountants check every month. If you want to add others, select Add.
