How should I record expenses that I've paid using my personal bank account for a UK based limited company?

You can create a journal entry to record the expenses you've paid using your personal bank account, info2105. Let me share the steps to keep your financial data accurate in QuickBooks Online.

While we don't recommend mixing business and personal funds, we can't avoid it sometimes. To record these transactions in QuickBooks Online, first create a journal entry. Then, decide how to reimburse the money, either by writing a check or recording an expense.

Since the app doesn't have a journal entry menu, you can log in to your QuickBooks account through a web browser on your phone or computer to complete the recording.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the + New menu.
  2. Select Journal entry.
  3. On the first line, select the expense account for the purchase.
  4. Enter the purchase amount in the Debits column
  5. On the second line, select Partner's equity or Owner's equity.
  6. Enter the same purchase amount in the Credits column.
  7. Select Save and new or Save and close.

Once done, you'll have to decide whether to reimburse the money by writing a cheque or entering an expense transaction.

Upon sharing the steps above, I encourage you to consult your accountant. They may have specific instructions for the debits and credits to use and provide expert advice tailored to your business needs.
