In order to export from desktop to online, you need to have a login as either the Master Admin or Company Admin of the actual company file. (not just have access via QuickBooks Online Accountant) .
As an accountant user, what you CAN do is if the company file has space for an additional normal user, add yourself under a different email address as a user, accept the invite and make sure you can log directly into the file as that new user. Then, go to desktop and do the export again but when it asks you to login, use the email you just created so it logs you into the company file and not your accountant file.
Thanks for this - I've tried that but it just creates a whole new company, even when I select the correct company to overwrite using the alternative email.
Normally it wouldn't matter so much, but this is one of my 10 for £10 companies so I need to use this specific company file.
How long has the company you're importing into been live? There IS a time limit on how long you have to import info into an existing QBO company file and have it overwrite. Normally 60-90 days.
The company has been sitting in my client list as a 10 for 10 placeholder for a while but it hasn't been live (ie I had to set it up before using it today) - the new data needs to go into that company because that company costs me £1/month with the 10 for £10 deal I got, whereas to create a new company will cost the full £26.40/month.
Hi there, @hello44,
To ensure you're able to import your data from QuickBooks Desktop to Online, I recommend contacting Odyssey Resources.
Intuit works in partnership with Odyssey Resources to make sure we're able to transfer data accurately. For more details about this service and how it works, you can visit this page: Frequently Asked Questions: Transfer data from Reckon, Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Desktop.
Before proceeding, you need to save backup copies of your company file to protect against accidental loss.
Thanks for contacting us here in the Intuit Community. Should you need anything else, please let me know and I'd be glad to help you out.
