Standard feed connections were removed in line with the implementation of Open Banking regulations in the UK in March.
For banks including AMEX which are not yet supported on the new open bank connection in QuickBooks, the feed will be expired and will require updating manually or with aCSV import.
You canview our article here to see which banks are available, and we'll also be updating this as soon as the AMEX connection is released.
Welcome to the QuickBooks family, @nickyalexander.
I'll provide some information about connecting to bank feeds in QuickBooks Online. There are two ways you can follow to determine if you can now upgrade to open banking.
You can either reach out to your financial institution for confirmation or visit our article about open banking. It contains a list of supported banks and the status of the available options.
Here's the link: Understanding if you can upgrade your bank feeds to Open Banking.
I've also included some articles in case you need some ideas about importing bank transactions manually: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.
If you have additional questions or concerns while working in QBO, leave a comment below. I’ll be happy to help you out.
Are there any further updates regarding this? I have spoken to American Express myself, and they have assured me that they are fully 'Open Banking' compliant with all of their accounts/cards using open banking. So why aren't we able to reconnect our amex to QB? And how long is it going to take?
Currently, there is not an available connection on open banking for American Express, our banking team is working on this and -New data feed available in the coming months. it will be a case of continuing to CSV your transactions in until it become available. the link below tells you which banks are on and which are not on the new open banking system.
This really sucks. As with other users (your customers) I only use (and pay my accountant) Quickbook for ease of use. If I have to start doing everything manually I will save myself the fees and go back to my old way of accounting. 75% of my business transactions go through American Express. Come on QB you need to get this resolved QUICKLY if you don't want to lose your customers.
Welcome to the Community page 👋
We appreciate your interest in the AMEX connection, while we're currently unable to release a projected date for this, we'll be updating our community guide linked here as soon as this becomes available within QuickBooks.
In the meantime you can update your account using CSV imports - you can follow our how-to guide here if you're unsure of how to do this.
This has now been an issue for months. One of the main reasons I pay for QB is for the automated bank feeds, which is now something I am not able to use.
I've spoken to American Express, on a few occasions, as Quickbooks seem unwilling to accept responsibility. The reps at Amex have confirmed, double checked and double confirmed that all of their accounts and systems are 'Open Banking' compliant and updated. Also, other American Express accounts seem to have been updated (USA, Australia, Canada, etc.), so I find it very odd, and very frustrating, that the UK American Express accounts are still unsupported. Someone, somewhere, must know why.
Please can this is rectified, and some real tangible information be provided other than - 'It'll happen at some point'? It's a huge amount of hassle!
Thanks for commenting on this post,
Our banking team is working on getting the connection available on open banking for American Express, there are a few things that they need to sort out on our end, they have not given us a time frame, but soon as we get any information and updates on this we will inform our customers.
Sorry Ashleigh1, but I'm with Ben 231 here.
It's not acceptable for something so critical to not be given a timescale. I too have been waiting a while for this. I keep not wanting to make the effort to move away, but with banking feeds so important, I really will have to soon.
Please express the importance of this to the banking team.
What is required ‘on your end’?
It is incredibly frustrating and inefficient to carry out the task of filing transactions manually, and is not what I pay my membership fee for.
I don’t understand why, if linking was setup and working before the Open Banking deadline (which Amex are enrolled in anyway) and it’s now working with other banks, why it is taking so long for Amex to work again?
I understand the impact of any delays in re-establishing the integration between AmEx and QuickBooks. Banking related concerns usually require troubleshooting steps that need to be performed more than one attempt.
As of this time, our product engineers are still working on this concern to comply with the new Open Banking regulation in utilizing the bank feeds function. You can read through this article to learn more: Understanding if you can upgrade your bank feeds to Open Banking.
In the meantime, you can download your AmEx transactions from your online account then import it in QuickBooks. You can read through these articles for more detailed instructions on how to do it depending on your subscription:
Keep me posted if you have any clarifications or questions. I’ll be right here to answer them for you.
We had the same issue with getting our Metro Bank feed live. Whenever we asked QB for an update the same standard reply was given, i.e. we understand..., we're working..., do it manually... etc. Metro is live now which is great but not knowing when really made us look to moving away from QB.
Have you ever tried importing manually into Quickbooks when its your own business? I doubt it as you would not recommend it if you had. Please give us something concrete so we know when to expect AMEX Open Banking integration - VAT is looming and its a massive time waste doing this manually.
I am not going to move because I still like QB but at least Xero say when they will implement AMEX Open Banking support - https://central.xero.com/s/article/Bank-feeds-affected-by-Open-Banking
Hi JamieCC, Thanks for reaching out about the Amex banking connection. All banks when ready are updated at this link. We will pass on your feedback about updating users when banks are moved onto open banking. Can we ask did you still have the old connection in place with Metro with an error and it gave you no option to upgrade? Thanks
Hi EmmaM, the link you sent is the same as that within QB on the Banking page. From memory when the Metro account came live I found out using the link just mentioned. I did this daily. My old connection was in place and I'm pretty sure it did not notify me when the connection was available.
I then checked when my last import to QB was done and then imported from that date using the new live feed option to avoid any duplications.
