Lost transactions from closed bank account

I recently closed two of my accounts and switched them into one new one.

In doing so i have just logged onto QuickBooks Self-employed and found all the transactions from those closed accounts have gone from my expenses and income.

Lost transactions from closed bank account

Hello Er1s

Thanks for reaching. The bank accounts do they show in the cog in the top right (of the browser version of Self Employed)>bank accounts as closed accounts?

It may have picked it up similar to a disconnection of a bank account which in the Self Employed product would remove all reviewed transactions.

It may be possible for our tier 2 team to recover them. Do you have FaceBook or Twitter? If so could you DM/PM us your email address and also the last 4 digits of the bank account which the transactions have disappeared from in QuickBooks, as the Community is a public forum it would redact information like that if you posted it here.

Lost transactions from closed bank account

Hi there, paddy p.

Let's refresh the connection between your bank's website and QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to sort it out.

Here's how to refresh bank accounts in QBSE to update the banking transactions:

  1. Click the Gear icon before your name in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Bank accounts, then click the Refresh all button.
  3. If there are changes coming from your bank's website, the system will prompt you to enter your banking credentials.
  4. Otherwise, it'll load the page and update the banking transactions automatically.

If you encounter the same issue, I suggest disconnecting and reconnecting your bank account to get this fixed.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. This way, they can further investigate this matter and help you from there.

Please know that you can always get back to us if you have any additional questions. I'll be right here to help.

Lost transactions from closed bank account

I have the same problem been onto the chat for 1 hr who was absolutely hopeless, he could not retrieve the transactions so asked me to reconnect the bank account, which I can't do because it is closed!

It is really poor that you lose all the hard work in assigning the transactions because you had to close a bank account!

Is there any way to retrieve these other than to manually go through all my statements and re enter them.

Lost transactions from closed bank account

Hi @paulakorn,

I appreciate you for getting in touch with us about the lost transactions. I would feel the same way too in that situation if the ability to retrieve data is unavailable.

However, if our QuickBooks Chat Support is unable to retrieve the information, the only way is to upload them manually. In case you need the steps, here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Self-Employed in a web browser.
  2. Click Settings ⚙.
  3. Select Imports.
  4. Choose Import older transactions
  5. Press Browse and find the file you downloaded from your bank.
  6. Select the file and select Open to start the import.
  7. Review the column headers and data. Make sure the Date, Description, and Amount columns on the CSV match the columns and order in QuickBooks. The other column headers can be in any order.
  8. Select Continue to complete the import.

I appreciate your input on this feature. As we assess this, I suggest you visit our QuickBooks Blog to stay updated with all the changes in the product.

Also, I've attached some articles you can use to export the transactions from your bank: Add older transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Drop me a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help you some more.
