HSBC bank set up

I am trying to connect my HSBC bank account with QB and I keep being prompted to enter a code HSBC has sent me.

HSBC has not sent me any codes and when I called them they said they do not support QB and cannot advise on the required code.

Has this happened to you? Is there a way to fix this apart from downloading an ecs file and uploading it?

Thanks

Re: HSBC bank set up

Hi Cata.

Thanks for contacting the Community.

The code that it will be asking for will be the Pinsentry code from the code generator. The information we will need to connect with your bank will be the same information you use when you log into the HSBC bank website.

Hopefully this clears things up but if you are still having problems, please feel free to get back in touch :)

Re: HSBC bank set up

So.... the connection is complete now. I had to change the bank account name to match the name on the bank statement. That seemed to do the trick.

However, it does not bring up any transactions. I shall wait until tomorrow and see if there are any changes.

Re: HSBC bank set up

Hi Ash,

I am trying to connect the exact same way I do with my online banking. Using the pin entry and I get the following message.

That wasn't quite right. Try again.

Your bank will send you a new code. (187)

I can see the balance of the account, just not the transactions.

Any ideas what I need to do?

Thanks,

Cata

Re: HSBC bank set up

I was having standard bank feeds working fine until last week when HSBC was not providing feeds to my QB accounts. When checking with HSBC I was given the same answer of "we dont support 3rd party connection or QB online". But it was working fine? whats the deal?

Re: HSBC bank set up

My Issue has now escalated as the problem has now shifted from issues with QBO connecting to HSBC site now it is not recognising our login information..... the saga goes on and now entering second month which we now consider what we are paying a monthly fee for if it doesnt work.

Re: HSBC bank set up

Hello Embers00

There is an investigation currently with the bank engineers for the 105 in the Australian region, we cover the UK in this Community can we just confirm you are using the UK product?

The investigation at the moment for the AU is still being worked on and the issue was caused by a n enhancement and change in HSBC log in process and security for that region. As a third party connecting to a bank we then have to modify our product to match there changes so it connects and pulls through information correctly

Thank you

Re: HSBC bank set up

Thanks Sean

Currently at the moment as we are a third party connecting to a standard feed the bank can stop the connection and ask for that additional security. You do have the option of changing to a direct feed connection, if you go to banking>add bank account>select HSBC business>get direct feeds(in blue writing)

It is a different type of connection whereby  the bank agrees to a connection(it does not use online banking log in so no additional security required) and it is a direct connection, once connected(it takes about ten days) it will merge to your existing data with that bank.

We would just have to advise it only updates once a day and  does not update at the weekend , as it is the bank uploading a file to QuickBooks

Any questions let us know

Re: HSBC bank set up

Hi Kryzmatic,

Is this a HSBC AU account to a QBO UK account? Which error do you receive?

Re: HSBC bank set up

Its been a known issue by QBO for six months and supposedly on their high priority to fix but it seems nothing is really happening at all. I am at a point of going to another software provider as the 11 accounts I have to now manually manipulate and convert even to upload have now become very costly. We need more customer complaints to have this resolved I think, Martin

Emma, I don't think this option is available for Personal Accounts only Business banking Accounts

Re: HSBC bank set up

Hi Martin,

I’ve read the status of the investigation. Our engineers have identified that HSBC (AU) has included an encryption in their new login process that blocks bank feeds. They are working with the bank to see if there's a workaround on this encryption.

Please continue uploading your transactions while waiting for an update. If your bank only offers an XLXS format, you can save a CSV copy out of it. Just change the file type to CSV when you click File and Save as in Excel.

If there's anything I can help you with your bank transactions, feel free to reply below.

Re: HSBC bank set up

Just signed up yesterday to Quickbooks, was happy to see that all major banks have connection to quickbooks, and voila - it doesn't work!  I have a UK HSBC biz account, put the pin security and nada, "something went wrong message try again in a few hours".  The balances show but no transactions.  This is frustrating.  I tried downloading statements .ofx and .csv and both also are considered wrong file format for manual upload.  If this doesn't work need to close and get money back.

Re: HSBC bank set up

Thanks for joining us here in the Community, @Samurai.

I'd like to ensure that you'll be able to connect your bank successfully to QuickBooks Online.

To start with, the security code that you're going to enter will be the Pinsentry code from the code generator. The information that we need to connect with your bank, will be the same information you use when you log into the HSBC bank website.

Once verified, connecting a bank account can be done by following these steps below:

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Select Connect from the landing page, or select Add account if you've already created an account.
  3. Search for your bank. You can connect most banks, even small credit unions.
  4. Select Continue, then enter the username and password you use for your bank's website in the pop-up window. It may take a few minutes for QuickBooks Online to connect your bank account. You'll see onscreen instructions if your bank requires additional security steps.
  5. Select the type of account you're adding (savings, current, or credit card). If you have multiple accounts with the same bank or credit card, choose the type for each one you're connecting.
  6. Select the date range for the download. Some banks download the last 90 days of transactions, others go back as far as 24 months.
  7. Select Connect.

However, if doing this isn't successful I'd suggest reaching out to our Customer Care Team. They can run a remote-viewing session to guide you with connecting your bank account.

Additionally, you may refer to these links below for more details about connecting bank accounts in QuickBooks Online:

Please keep me in the loop on how these things turns out. I'll be around to provide further assistance if there's anything else you need. Take care!
