Thank you for sharing the complete details of your concern, @Mike. Let's check to see why you're unable to find a match for your bank transactions in the program.
Please check the following criteria that could prevent the program from matching the transactions:
Let's also review the date and amount to match them. For instance, there might be a slight difference of the amount because of the bank fees deducted from it. If so, you'll need to manually edit the QuickBooks transaction and refresh the bank feed window.
Once everything is in order, you can start categorizing and matching your online bank transactions. This way, they'll be posted into the correct accounts.
After that, you can review your accounts in QuickBooks to make sure they match your bank transactions. See this article for the complete details: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
Be sure to check back in with me here and let me know how this goes. I'm always around to help you in any way I can. Stay safe.
Thanks for your reply but this is not the problem I am experiencing.
These are all transactions which exactly match and can be successfully matched manually.
the issue seems to be that QB no longer recognises the match.
For example - I purchase a coffee from Costa for £2.00 a month ago, QB matches it within 24 hours
i purchase a coffee from Costa for £2.00 in the last two weeks - QB doesn’t find the match even when I search for a match
its clearly related to a change in the algorithm or a software update
Thank you for following up, mike.
I'm here to add some information when matching transactions in QuickBooks Online.
There are some instances wherein certain transactions can't be matched against existing records in QuickBooks. These are some possible reasons:
If QuickBooks didn't find the right match, you can either manually find a match by selecting the Find Match section, or choose to Add a new transaction.
I've included this article to learn how to undo or unmatch transactions if for some reason you match it with the wrong transaction or categorise them to the wrong account: Unmatch downloaded bank transactions or move them to another account.
You can also use this link to know how to set up and use bank rules to automatically categorise transactions: Set up bank rules to categorise online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Let me know if you still need assistance or have other concerns about banking. I'll be here to help. Take care.
Thank you for the reply.
I haven’t changed bank and I am spending at the same outlets on a regular basis and almost overnight I have gone from almost 100% transactions auto matching to none auto matching
when I manually match it is fine - so clearly the amounts, payees, dates etc match it’s just the system is no longer spotting them
clearly this is an algorithm or software issue
