Hello there.
It's my priority to ensure you'll be able to keep a handy copy of your data.
Yes, you can export your reports by running the Transaction Detail by Account report that'll reflect your desired account. And I'd be delighted to walk you through the steps.
Here's how:
I'm adding this article for more details: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you but that does not answer my question. If you look at my screen shot you see the category in the the spreadsheet is shown as "Birthdays and Xmas". In QuickBooks it is "Personal:Birthdays and Xmas" because "Birthdays and Xmas" is a Sub-category of "Personal". I need the export to have the full category name in it because I am only interested in other categories that don't have receipts attached. If it is in the personal category I don't care.
Really i just want to be able to filter a category for records that don't have attachments and be able to update the results line by line but for some reason QuickBooks filters are extremely limited and unhelpful.
I've got you covered, jon.
I know how important it is for you to keep track of expenses with no attachments. I can provide different ways of running reports that contain the data you need.
You're on the right track. You can go to the Expenses menu and checkmark the Attachments box to view the list of expense transactions without attachment.
Here's how:
Run Account QuickReport thereafter to see the whole category name together with the subcategory.
Here's how:
The entire category and its subcategories are now visible. Compare or combine the information you have on the exported list of expense transactions after that.
Additionally, I've added this resource to help you filter your report to highlight particular accounts or arrange the layout so the appropriate data appears exactly where it should: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.
If you have further questions about running reports, let me know. I'll get back with more details.
Hello,
Thank you again but that still doesn't help. Attachments is not a column I can use on the Chart of Accounts report. Also I need to be able to export it to excel so I can filter out data to only records with 0 attachments.
I said in the previous reply about using only one category that doesn't really work short term. If I am having to export the data to excel to get proper filtering I need to be able to export all of my data with full Category and Sub-Category information and attachments in one file. If I don't have all that then I have to spend a lot of time reformatting each time I want to see where I am in my changes.
The only way i can think of doing this is to make my subcategory names start with the code to represent the category they are under ie something like "ZZ Birthdays and Xmas" but that defeats the object of having a subcategory and looks awful. I just don't understand why Quickbooks is so limited in its customisation and filtering. I know other customers want to see expenses without attachments. I just don't get why Quickbooks doesn't allow such a simple filter. When you are working at year end and you have 20+ different categories you want to see if you have 300+ expenses to look at and then gradually see you are getting that down as you make progress. You don't want to think well I think I remember doing category a, b and c, I better look at d now. You just want a report or export that shows what is outstanding and I personally want to exclude one category from that report. It is not hard and yet it seems Quickbooks makes it so.
Hi jon.
I understand how convenient it is for you to have specific options for customising reports when exporting them from QuickBooks Online.
We'd love to hear more of your suggestions. I recommend submitting feedback to our development team so they can consider adding more options when customising reports in QuickBooks.

And thus into the black hole of requests that don't happen. So frustrating
