If I am using quick books as a bridging only software where/how do I input the information for the 9 boxes. Thank you

Hello there, @damiller80.

You'll have to authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC first so you can submit VAT returns through your bridging software. Let me guide you how.

First off, you'll need to enable Making Tax Digital (MTD) in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. From the left menu, select Advanced.
  4. In the Making Tax Digital section, click on Learn how to connect.
  5. On the Get started with digital tax page, click on Let's go.

Then, you can now authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC.

  1. Upon clicking on Let's go, you'll be directed to HMRC page then click Continue to sign in.
  2. Enter your HMRC credentials.
  3. Click on Grant authority to continue. The authorisation process will begin.
  4. Once the authorisation has been given, you will receive a "You're connected to HMRC" message and click Continue.
  5. When the process has been completed, click on Take a look.

Once you have completed this process, the Making Tax Digital badge will be enabled on the Taxes page.

You can read this article for the detailed steps and information: Authorise QuickBooks to Interact with HMRC - MTD for Small Businesses.

You can now proceed to file a VAT return through your bridging software. Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, click Taxes.
  2. Click on the drop-down next to Submit return, then select Submit with a spreadsheet option.
  3. On the Submit with bridging software page, verify your client's VAT number and VAT period you've selected. If all the information is correct, click on Browse and select the CSV file containing your client's VAT information, then Next.
  4. If your CSV file has multiple sheets, you need to specify the sheet that contains the transactions that make up your VAT return.
  5. Once you have selected the sheet required you need to enter the first cell from your CSV file, which in most cases is box 1 of your return.
  6. Check the fields populated in QuickBooks. If the numbers match, click on Review return to proceed.
  7. On the next page, select I declare the information is true and complete, then click Submit to HMRC.
  8. QuickBooks will now attempt to connect to HMRC and submit your VAT return.
  9. Once the submission is successful, a confirmation message below is displayed. Click on Done to return to the VAT centre.
  10. The status for your return has now changed to Accepted.
