projects

The way projects work by seemingly being another customer or sub-customer creates problem in CRM software etc that links into quickbooks as you get multiple customer entries for essentially the same customer. So linking with Method for instance creates a right mess. I now have 35 entries as customer:project for one client with multiple projects. There must be a better way or do i now have to delete all the projects, as marking them as complete does not appear to fix this multiple customer problem?  Deleting the projects would mean going back through 6 months of accounts and assigning every project entry back to the root customer then deleting.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for coming to the Community for support, @edagr. Let me share a few ideas about how to link multiple customer projects for the same customer.

In QuickBooks Online, you'll need to add sub-customer to a parent customer and make sure that they're connected to only one main, parent customer. Also, ensure that your sub-customer doesn't have sub-customers of its own. For more insights, you can check out this link: Link sub-customers into Projects

In your case, you don't have to delete your projects. Since you've already had a lot of entries, all you have to do is to merge or link a sub-customer with an existing project. Here's how:

  1. Select the Projects menu, then locate the project you want to merge with your sub-customers.
  2. Copy the name of the project, then go to the Sales menu and select the Customers tab.
  3. Locate and open the sub-customer, then click Edit.
  4. In the edit window, change the Display name to the project name. Make sure to match the project name accurately.
  5. Select Save and Yes to confirm the merge whenever you're ready,

This action moves your sub-customer transactions into your Project.
