I Have attempted to send this months return to HMRC but QB won't allow me to until I submit earlier fillings however last months went ok how do I get around this

Thanks for visiting the Community space, @robinbaitey.

You can submit EPS if you've already completed all the payroll for the tax month or by the 19th of the following month if HMRC has to give you credit for what you owe from the EPS.

Here's the step-by-step process to send EPS to HMRC:

  1. In the left menu, click Taxes
  2. Go to the Payroll Tax tab.
  3. Pick the EPS, then view the details.
  4. Enter your HMRC credentials if this is the first time you're submitting.
  5. Hit Submit.

Once it's submitted, you'll receive a message and see a Status of Accepted.

Greetings I've attempted to send the EPS again but no joy my FPS went through ok the EPS does not have to be sent every month so I can't understand why it should need previous returns sent before I can continue .

QuickBooks Team

I appreciate you getting back to us, @robinbaitey.

There are several factors why you can't submit your EPS to HMRC. Here's a list of some of them:

  • If you have paid employees within the current pay period (no payment period is indicated), FPS filings have been submitted.
  • You haven't paid SMP or SPP before sending EPS.
  • You have outstanding payrolls for the month. Then the EPS filing is listed, but cannot be submitted until you’ve run all payroll for the tax month.

You'll want to make sure that the list stated above must have complied so you can file your EPS to HMRC. Then, follow the detailed steps share by my colleague MirriamM.

I'm also adding this article for more guidance: Submit EPS to HMRC in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

I'm always here to listen if you have concerns with submitting EPS. You're welcome to post again or leave a reply below. Have a great day.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your reply. The EPS is only able to be submitted between the 6th and 19th of each tax month, meaning you'll now need to wait until the 6th of October to submit this.

If you're using the standard payroll, you'll need to delete any rejected EPS showing on the Payroll Tax screen (Taxes > Payroll tax) before you're able to submit the new EPS - EPS are cumulative reports and so will contain all of the information for this tax year to date.

Please get back to us below if you have any questions 🙂

Once you remove the EPS submission, how can we create a new submission? Does it come automatically? when it should come up?

Hello there, cloudtelecom.

If you've missed submitting EPS, you can do it next month since it'll automatically generate in the program. Within the Payroll Tax Centre, you'll see EPS that needs to be sent. You can take the details shared by GeorgiaC above. In addition, you can check this article where you can get additional details: Submit EPS to HMRC in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll

Also, you can view the submitted FPS and EPS filings in QBO by following the complete steps in this article: Where to see your filings?.

Let me know if you have other questions. Take care always!
