Hi I’m trying to set up standard pay roll. When I log onto my account there is no employees or payroll anywhere on the menu

Getting you set up for QuickBooks Online (QBO) Standard Payroll is my priority, @themarlowbuilder. I have a solution to help you utilize the Employees or Payroll menu so you can turn on Standard Payroll and pay your employees in no time.

You need the Employees or Payroll menu to turn on Standard Payroll. Even if you don't have an active payroll account, the mentioned menus should still be accessible. To help us isolate this matter, I would encourage you to perform some troubleshooting steps. This display or menu error can sometimes be caused by the browser's collection of data over time from frequent page visits.

You can start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the Employees or Payroll menu and turn on Standard Payroll. For the detailed steps, here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees or Payroll menu.
  2. Select Choose your plan. You'll see the two options to choose from Standard Payroll and Advanced Payroll.
  3. From the Standard Payroll option, select Start 1 month free trial.
  4. Go to the Employees or Payroll menu, then select Let's go to set up your payroll in QBO.

If you're able to do so, return to your default browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues. However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

Then, you're now ready to provide some information about your company and employees. For the step-by-step guide, please see this article: Get set up for QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

Also, you may want to know the complete details in setting up payroll in QBO Standard Payroll. With this, I'd recommend checking out these articles to help you prepare payroll for your company:
