My access to payroll is blocked by a screen saying "You’re changing the AdvancedPayrollUK admin for APUK can only connect to one admin’s email address at a time.

Options are "No Thanks" or "Change Admin" - what are the implications? Why does QB need access to employee data?

Hey there Richard

Thank you for contacting Intuit, you've reached our UK support for QuickBooks Online.

That message you're seeing usually happens when the payroll app needs to be refreshed - pressing the Change Admin button is completely fine, it will have no negative impact on permissions and will let you use the payroll again

Can we still have 2 administrators?

Jorge F at 11:09, Mar 17:
The permission will remain unchanged, don't worry - everyone who's an admin on QB will have access to payroll

You

Thank you - hope you are right. QB could really help by explaining messages better.

Jorge F at 11:11, Mar 17:
That's understandable, I'll leave feedback on that here on my notes - I can see that message being a little bit confusing

You
at 11:12, Mar 17:
We'll try it later today when both admins can access at different times. Pleased that you appreciate the issue. Thanks

In the meantime, of course, do let me know if any issue arises or if there's anything else we can help with

Jorge F at 11:12, Mar 17:
No problem, happy to clarify!

Enjoy the rest of your day and thank you for contacting Intuit's QuickBooks Online

Look no further, @Dynamic Treasurer.

Let's ensure that there are no other users that are currently accessing the Payroll page in QuickBooks. If none and you're still receiving an error message, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. To start, let's access your QBO account using a private mode. There are times when the cache and cookies in your browser may be corrupted which leads to navigation issues. The following are the shortcut keys you can use:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Once signed in, run payroll again. If this works, clear your regular browser cache to remove the damaged and corrupted files. If the same result, use other supported browsers. The one you are currently using may have a temporary issue with QuickBooks.

Also, QuickBooks Online offers several payroll reports that you can pull up to access your business and employee information. To get started, see our View Payroll reports page.

Let me know by leaving a comment below if you need further assistance accessing payroll in QuickBooks. Have a great day ahead.

I have also received this message today for the first time - are others experiencing the issue - is it a QB software problem?

Thanks for joining the thread, Rob Atkins.

I've checked our system and haven't found any reports about the error message "You’re changing the AdvancedPayrollUK admin for APUK can only connect to one admin’s email address at a time."

If I may ask, have you tried the steps provided by my colleague DivinaMercy_N above? If no, I suggest following the above solution.

However, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to pull up your account to deep investigate the root of the problem and why the issue keeps appearing.

To reach them, click the ? Help button at the top-right corner and select Payroll to talk with a live agent. Ensure to review their support hours so, you'll know when agents are available.

As always please let me know how this goes or check back if you need help with QBO. I'm here to help. Have an awesome day!
