When I attempt save the the employees pension as the new SIPP i've added I get this message:
'You cannot change an employee's pension scheme once they have been paid in the current tax year.'
When i attempt to change the existing pension details I get this:
'You can’t change your provider type after employees have started paying into the workplace pension.'
Both Nest (existing) and Interactive investor (new pension) and pension advice service say an employee should be able to change their pension at any time.

Hello Community Users, We just wanted to pop in and update this thread with the outcome of this query. The customer was unable to make the change because Standard Payroll will not allow you to change pension provider after the employee has been paid in the current tax year.
The options given were
- to recreate the employee again and make the old one a leaver to change the pension provider;
- Run the employee on a different payroll provider until April when you can change it, for example Basic tools;
- Or upgrade to QBO Advanced Payroll to edit this as the function on Advanced payroll will allow them to make the change.
User decided to move to advanced payroll.
Any questions please feel free to ask.
