I am using Online Advanced Payroll and have a query regarding how SSP is worked out on the payrun.
As a test, I have set up a week of sick leave (3 waiting days and 1 qualifying), as a Statutory Payment under my employee record. I have then started a new pay run with only myself added so that I could check the figures.
I have set up the Statutory payment to reduce my salary - but it has only ben reduced by the amount of SSP that I receive - therefore no reduction at all in my salary. I would have expected to have a reduction by the full amount for the day, and then SSP as a lower amount being added in.
My hours are set up as 6 hours per day, Tuesday to Friday. I would have expected to see a deduction of 6 x £11.43 (£68.58), and then SSP paid at £23.97 for the same day. Instead my salary is only reduced by £23.97, and then SSP is paid at the same amount, meaning no loss of earnings.
If I set up the Statutory payment as "do not pay basic pay" I get none of my salary, and only 1 day SSP.
If I set it up as "pay basic pay as entered" then I get my full salary plus an extra day of SSP.
None of the options actually do what I would expect - which is to reduce my salary by a full day's amount, and then pay SSP.
Am I doing something wrong or is the system set up incorrectly? We can of course manually adjust pay in a pay run but it seems incredible that this automatic system requires manual correction, and is prone to being missed. Please can someone help with this? It is causing us serious issues with paying any sick leave.
