Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Time subscription

In this article, we'll walk you through the process of upgrading or downgrading your QuickBooks Time subscription.
We'll cover all the changes and features that come with each option. Additionally, we'll dive into what exactly happens when you decide to downgrade and the exciting new features you can expect when you choose to upgrade.

Upgrade from QuickBooks Time Premium to QuickBooks Time Elite
If you have QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, Advanced, Accountant, or QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium or Elite, you can upgrade to QuickBooks Time Elite there.
Note: When you upgrade your account, you won’t lose any information, including the time tracked.
- In QuickBooks Online, select Settings ☸, then Subscriptions and billing.
Or, in QuickBooks Time, select your Profile, then select Billing and Subscription. - Select Upgrade your plan.
- Select Choose plan on the Elite tile and follow the on-screen steps to upgrade your plan.
Projects
Projects let you set up time estimates to track the progress made on a project. With this feature, you can:
- Break your estimates down by individual tasks, or keep it simple with total hours.
- See live updates, such as notes and clock ins/outs, for each active project in the activity feed.
Note: Existing timesheets won't be transferred into any new projects you create. This feature will only apply to time moving forward.
To get started, set up your jobs or customers as normal, and then use the projects feature to set up any active projects your team will be working on.
Geofencing
Geofencing alleviates time spent editing and correcting timesheets. Physical addresses added to your jobs and customers will let team members receive notifications from QuickBooks Workforce to clock in or out based on when they entered or left the job site.
Timesheet Signatures
Timesheet signatures turns on a signature box on each timesheet for employees to sign as they clock out. The signatures are viewable in time entries and certain reports by an admin or manager.
Downgrade from QuickBooks Time Elite to QuickBooks Time Premium
If you have QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, Advanced, you can downgrade to QuickBooks Time Premium there.
Note: You won't lose any time tracked during your downgrade.
- In QuickBooks Online, select Settings ☸, then Subscriptions and billing.
Or, in QuickBooks Time, select your Profile, then Billing and Subscription. - Select Downgrade your plan.
- Select Choose plan on the Premium tile and follow the on-screen steps to downgrade your plan.
Projects
- Projects show up as sub-customers in your customers list. You won't lose those projects; they’ll become listed as a sub-customer.
- Your team members can still clock in to these from the time clock.
- If you used project tasks, you can find them as items in a custom field called “tasks”. To access this, go to QuickBooks Time, select Feature Add-ons, then Custom Fields.
- No time tracked against those projects will change or be lost. However, you will no longer have access to the activity feed or any other projects features.
Geofencing
- The addresses you have setup for each customer or job will remain in your account.
- Team members will no longer be directly notified when they have neared a job, or be offered time adjustments for forgotten clock-ins/outs. However, you can still use the nearby jobs feature. Nearby jobs will only suggest jobs located physically near the team member when they clock in.
Timesheet signatures
- Your team members will no longer be able to sign their timesheets.
- Historic timesheet signatures will still be viewable as attachments on those timesheets.
