
Link your American Express Credit Card account to QuickBooks

Learn how to link your American Express Credit Card account so you can download your recent transactions.
Follow these steps to connect and make the most of your American Express Credit Card account. Check out these steps for other types of credit card accounts.
Create an American Express account in QuickBooks Online
If you haven't already, create an American Express Credit Card account on your chart of accounts:
- Go to Settings
and select Chart of accounts (Take me there).
- Select New to create an account.
- From the Account type ▼ dropdown, select Credit Card.
- Enter an account name in the Account name field.
- When you're finished, select Save.
Connect your American Express account in QuickBooks Sole Trader
- Go to Transactions and select Bank transactions.
- Select the New transaction ▼ dropdown and select Link account.
Note: If you're connecting an account for the first time, select Connect account on the landing page. - Search for and select American Express (UK).
- Select Let's go, then select Agree.
- Select Sign in.
- In the pop-up window, sign in with your American Express user ID and password. You'll see onscreen instructions if American Express requires additional security steps.
- Select the accounts you want to connect to QuickBooks.
- Select the date range for the download.
- Select Connect.
Connect your account in QuickBooks Online
- Follow this link to complete the steps in product.
- Select Connect account if this is your first time connecting, or Link account if you've created one in the past.
- Search for and select American Express (UK).
- Select Let's go, then select Agree.
- Select Sign in.
- In the pop-up window, sign in with your American Express user ID and password. You'll see onscreen instructions if American Express requires additional security steps. If you don’t have an account, you'll be able to create one.
- Select the accounts you want to connect to QuickBooks.
- For each account, select the account type from the dropdown.
- Select the date range for the download.
- Select Connect.
Now that your American Express accounts are connected, QuickBooks Online will automatically download transactions so you don't have to enter them manually. Go to Transactions and select Bank transactions (Take me there) to review, add, and match them.
