Manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Learn how to enter sales income and expenses.
If you connect your bank and credit card accounts, QuickBooks Self-Employed automatically downloads your recent transactions. You can also manually add single transactions. QuickBooks Self-Employed gives you both options so you can do business anywhere, anytime.
Manually add a new transaction
On a web browser
- Go to the Transaction menu and select Add Transaction.
- Enter the amount and a description.
- Select the Select a category menu. Select the best category to organise your transaction. Learn more about categories.
- If you have a receipt, you can drag and drop it onto the form.
- When you’re done, select Save.
On an iPhone or iPad (iOS)
- Select the Transactions menu.
- Tap the Plus (+) icon.
- Select Add income manually or Add expense manually.
- Fill out the details.
- If you're entering an expense, select Category. Then select an expense category. Here's a list of all the expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
- If you want to add a receipt, tap Attach receipt.
- When you're done, select Save.
On an Android phone or tablet
- Select the menu ☰ icon and then select Transactions
- Tap the Plus (+) icon.
- Select Add income manually or Add expense manually.
- Fill out the details.
- If you're entering an expense, select Category. Then select an expense category. Here's a list of all the expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
- If you want to add a receipt, tap Attach receipt.
- When you're done, select Save.
Tip: You can also create new transactions directly from images of your receipt.
