Export payroll journals using locations and classes in QuickBooks Online Bureau Payroll

SOLVEDby QuickBooksUpdated March 14, 2024

Before you export a journal with pre-populated classes and locations, make sure you have done the following:

  1. Imported locations from QuickBooks.
  2. If you want to add classes to your journal entries, assign classes to your locations as well.

Then, the next step is to make sure the 'Split by location' option is enabled in the chart of accounts. Check this by following these steps:

  1. Go to Payroll, and the Payroll settings tab.
  2. Within Business settings, select Chart of accounts.
  3. Select Default accounts.
  4. For each journal transaction type where you want to assign classes and locations, select Split by location.
  5. Select Save.

The last step is to run payroll. Make sure to assign the correct locations to your employees' earnings lines. Once you've done this, you can finalise the pay run. A journal will then be posted, with transaction lines created for each location or class.
