Do I need to import my data in a specific order?

Import your spreadsheets in the following order to help ensure your data is imported correctly:

  1. Customers
  2. Products and services 
  3. Invoices 
  4. Bank Data 

How do I import my data?

You can manually import your existing spreadsheet data using Excel CSV files.

Note: A CSV (Comma Separated Value) file, is common file format used for text files that contain tabular data.

  1. Sign in to Sole Trader
  2. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Import data
  3. Select the data type you want to import
  4. Select Browse to upload the CSV file from your computer
  5. Select Next
  6. Match the fields to the correct
  7. Select Done

Once you have selected a data type, select Download a sample file Image of the download icon.. This will help you in formatting your data correctly.

What do I do if  I receive an error while importing my data

If you get an error message whilst importing your data into QuickBooks Sole Trader, here are a few things to check before trying again.

  • Check that your data is mapped correctly and formatted properly. Use the sample CSV files to help you format your data. 
  • Check that the item you're trying to import isn't already in QuickBooks Online. We can't import duplicate data.
  • Check the number of rows you are importing. If your spreadsheet has more than 1,000 rows, split it into smaller files and import them separately.
