To learn more, see View and manage your MTD Income Tax obligations in QuickBooks.

To send an update

  1. Go to the Overview page.
  2. Find the current open quarter. You can start the update in two ways:
    • Select Send update on the specific update card at the top of the page.
    • Scroll down to the Quarterly Updates list and select Send update next to the specific income source.
  3. Choose the period you want to cover:
    • Up to end of Q[x]: Submits data for just the specific quarter.
    • Year to date: Submits cumulative data for the tax year so far. Note: If you select Year to date, you must continue submitting year-to-date figures for the rest of the tax year.
  4. Review your Business income and Allowable business expenses. You can select any of the individual amounts to get a detailed breakdown of the transactions within the category.
  5. (Optional) Select Preview tax mapping to see how your chart of accounts maps to HMRC tax categories.
  6. (Optional) If you are an accountant, select Download CSV to share the report with your client for approval.
  7. When you are ready, select Submit to HMRC.

You will see a confirmation screen when HMRC receives your update. On your Overview page, the quarter will now show a green tick to indicate it is complete.
