by Intuit•2• Updated 1 month ago

Learn how to finalise your year-end tax return and submit your final declaration to HMRC.

Before you begin

You must submit all four quarterly updates before you can send a final declaration. Check the Overview page to ensure all quarters are marked as complete.

To submit your final declaration

  1. Select the Tax return tab from the left menu (or select the Final declaration card on the Overview page).
  2. Review each income source listed (such as Sole trader income or UK property income).
  3. For each source, select Review.
  4. Verify your income and expenses. If you need to change reported amounts, select Edit next to Accounting adjustments.
  5. To claim allowances, select Add next to Tax adjustments and allowances. Examples of what you can enter here include:
    • Trading allowance: Where you can enter your flat rate allowance if applicable.
    • Capital allowances: Where you can claim any applicable allowances for capital expenditure
    • Business income adjustments: Where you can make adjustments for non-taxable profits or goods you have taken from the business for personal use.
  6. Select Submit to save your changes for Tax adjustments and allowances.
  7. Select Confirm to save your changes for that income source.
  8. If you have other income not previously reported (like interest or savings), go to the Additional income section and select Review. Here you will be shown a list of different income types which you can Add to your return.
  9. Once all sections are marked as Complete, select Review & file.
  10. Answer the disclosure questions regarding Class 2 National Insurance, Marriage Allowance and tax avoidance schemes. Select Confirm.
  11. Review the final Tax calculation summary.
  12. If everything looks correct, select Confirm.
  13. Read the declaration statement and tick the box to confirm the information is correct.
  14. Select Confirm to submit your final declaration.

Note: Once submitted, the status on your Tax return page will update to Complete
