Record CIS deductions suffered in QuickBooks Online Payroll

by Intuit•6• Updated 1 month ago

QuickBooks Online Payroll helps you keep track of and submit your Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) deductions suffered to HMRC.

This article is for customers who use QuickBooks Online Core, Premium, or Elite Payroll.

Important: The UK payroll tax year runs from April 6 to April 5. You can enter CIS suffered for the previous tax year until April 18. To add CIS suffered for the new tax year (from April 6 onwards), you must first change your active tax year in your payroll settings.

Record CIS deductions

Before you start, switch on the CIS feature in your settings.

  1. Go to Settings âš™ and select Account and settings.
  2. Select Payroll Settings.
  3. Next to CIS Suffered, select the pencil icon.
  4. Enter the total CIS Suffered amount for the period, including the date.
  5. Select Save Record.

You can add and update the CIS deductions as needed for each period. You can check the total amounts suffered per period and access both the CIS suffered and P32 reports.

Switching from another payroll software

If you’re moving your payroll from another software to QuickBooks Online Core Payroll and have recorded CIS deductions in the past, you’ll need to add these manually.

You can only add amounts for one tax year at a time.
