Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed or Sole Trader if you pay through Apple or Google Play
by Intuit•2• Updated 2 weeks ago
Learn how to switch to QuickBooks Online or Sole Trader Plus if your subscription is billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
| This article is for Self-Employed or Sole Trader customers who pay via Apple or Google Play and want to switch to QuickBooks Online or Sole Trader Plus. |
Why switch?
When you switch, you move to QuickBooks on the Intuit Platform. This is an all-in-one integrated platform experience that brings your books, tools and services together in one place.
- MTD ready: Stay ahead of HMRC’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements with software built to support the 2026 changes.
- AI-powered insights: Intuit Assist helps surface duplicate expenses, identify potential tax savings and answer business questions in real time.
- Professional invoicing: Use branded templates and track exactly who owes you money.
- Connected tools: Manage everything from bank feeds to mileage in one integrated platform that grows with your business.
If you use mobile billing
If you pay for QuickBooks through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, your switching process is slightly different.
Because your subscription is managed by Apple or Google, you can’t switch plans directly within your QuickBooks account. Before you can move to QuickBooks on the Intuit Platform, your billing needs to be transferred from the app store to QuickBooks. Our support team will help you with this.
How to connect with an expert
- Sign in to your QuickBooks account.
- Select the Help (?) icon.
- Scroll down and select Contact Us, then follow the prompts.
You can request a callback or start a live chat. You’ll see estimated wait times so you can choose the option that works best for you.
What to expect during your switch
Our experts will handle the technical side of the move so you can focus on running your business. During your session, they will:
- Transfer your billing: Move your subscription from the app store to QuickBooks.
- Help you choose the right plan: Ensure you switch to the plan that suits your business needs.
- Guide the migration: Screen-share with you and walk through the process step by step.
- Support onboarding: Show you how to book a free 1-to-1 session with an onboarding specialist to help you get started on the new platform.
If you pay QuickBooks directly
If you purchased your subscription through the QuickBooks website, you can switch plans yourself:
- Select Settings âš™, then choose Account and settings.
- Select Billing & subscription.
- Select Upgrade your plan.
- Choose your new plan and follow the prompts.
Moving your data
When you switch, your data stays with you.
- From Self-Employed: You can transfer up to seven years of data, including bank transactions, invoices, mileage and receipts.
- From Sole Trader: All existing data will be available and mapped to your new plan.
Important: Once the move begins, do not add any new transactions or business data until you receive a confirmation email from us. This ensures everything syncs correctly and your new account is ready to use.
After switching
After switching, your interface will look different because you’ll be using the full QuickBooks Online platform.
