Undo a client’s entire reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant

by Intuit24 Updated about 2 hours ago

Undo an entire reconciliation instead of removing transactions one by one, so you can start over and fix mistakes. This doesn't undo transactions you cleared manually outside of a reconciliation.

Note: You can undo a reconciliation if you're the Primary Admin of the QuickBooks Online company, an Accountant or In-House Accountant with access to the company, or part of an Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES) firm.

Before you begin

  • Download any attachments and reports tied to the reconciliation. Undoing a reconciliation permanently deletes them.
  • If you're the Primary Admin and an accountant is attached to your company, you'll be asked to talk to them before you continue.

Undo a reconciliation

  1. Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., select Accounting, then select Reconcile (Take me there).
  2. Select History by account.
  3. Select the account and date range for the reconciliation you want to undo.
  4. Find the reconciliation you want to undo.
  5. From the Action column, select the dropdown, then select Undo.
  6. If you're the Primary Admin with an accountant connected to your company, you'll see a prompt to talk to your accountant first. Select Continue to proceed.
  7. Review the consequences listed in the confirmation window.
  8. Select the checkbox to acknowledge that undoing the reconciliation is permanent. You can't continue until you select the checkbox.
  9. Select Undo reconciliation. After you undo a reconciliation, you can reconcile the account again and fix any errors.

Result

The reconciliation you chose, and any reconciliations completed after it, are undone. Reconciled transactions revert to uncleared or cleared status, and the beginning balance reverts to the ending balance of the last reconciliation before the one you undid. The register updates automatically to reflect the reverted state, and you'll see a confirmation of the ending balance and statement date that were reverted.

Note: The reconciliation report and any attachments tied to it are deleted when you undo. Check your transaction audit history to review any manual changes made to transactions in the dates you undid.
