Continuing problems with re-authorising MTD with HMRC

I'm currently unable to re-authorise with HMRC for Making Tax Digital. I click the Take Action button, which opens a new window, click Let's Go, login to HRMC via the new pop-up window, but then it errors and fails to connect.

Strangely it looks like the system had tried to connect to a development environment on HMRC as it has the title HMRC developer hub.

I know there were some issues with HMRC from the weekend after a call with a support technician earlier this week, but their website now says the system is back online. Does anyone know what's happening from the Quickbooks end?

Continuing problems with re-authorising MTD with HMRC

Hi, this problem is happening to me today (31 Mar 21). Unfortunately I was not aware that the HMRC authorisation would expire and need renewing, so when I went to submit the VAT return which has to be done today, I find I cannot.

The HMRC site appears to work fine but on clicking the "Authorise..." button, it returns to a  QB web address https://c41.qbo.intuit.com/soauth2/callback/4?response_token= with the error "An unexpected error occurred. Please ensure that you are making a valid request and try again later."

If you ask HMRC for the list of authorised applications, it says QB was authorised today, however QB still thinks it is not authorised.

I have a ticket in with QB support about this but if anyone has further info on here which will help me get my VAT return submitted before the deadline of 5pm tonight, that would be nice.

Hello Tim19,

Thanks for posting on this thread,

Thanks for the image and information, can you try on firefox and  turn pop ups off  and see if works and for you and stops that message being sent to you.

If you still have any issues then let us know.

Thanks, I had tried both Firefox and Chrome earlier with "Block popups" set to "off" but it didn't help, however I just tried again and it worked on Chrome with popups allowed.

It's unfortunate that Quickbooks uses a random web address for this (something.qbo.intuit.com) otherwise you could add an exception to allow popups for that site. Don't want to run with popups allowed for all sites but that seems to be the only way to make it work.

Continuing problems with re-authorising MTD with HMRC

Morning,

It seems like using Chrome can resolve the ongoing re-authorising issue for some but we have had client's with the same issue already using Chrome and issue was still not resolved. However, after an online chat with a very helpful adviser (which incidentally was not in the Chrome browser to enable screen sharing) I have had success where we had not previously not so I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Before going through the disconnect and re-connect MTD in the account settings again, I was asked to remove the gaps in the VAT number in the VAT Settings first.

The process worked straight away so for anyone still having problems this is something you could try.

Thanks I will remember that one for when it happens next time! Hopefully I will stay authorised for 18 months.
