I was unable to carry this out even with my accountant sat beside me. We had to do it rhough HMRC website and manually mark it as done. Although Quickbooks was very useful for collecting the required information

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hey there, my last filing quarter ended in May, when do I need to start using QuickBooks to submit my VAT in MTD compliant way? Also I think I connected HMRC with my QuickBooks, but not 100% sure - how can I check that?

Hi @BasetoApex

Welcome to the community!

Would you mind providing your company ID via PM and I'll help as best I can. If you don't know how to find this, simply log into Quickbooks and push CTRL, Alt, and ? on your keeyboard and then click Copy.

Cheers,

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hey @Aaron_b

If your last filing was May, your next return will be due for submission on September 7th which is after the first MTD deadline on August 7th, so you will need to sign up for MTD.

Please note you should sign up to MTD at least 72 hours before your return is due (if you do not pay by Direct Debit), and 7 working days before your next submission.

In order to verify that you have successfully enabled MTD in Quickbooks, simply log in and pop over to your VAT Centre by clicking "Taxes" in the left navigation menu. Once the page loads you should see a Making Tax Digital Enabled image in the top left.

Cheers,

Craig

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Thanks for the info but that doesn't help me submitting the final VAT for a client We are all signed up for MTD and successfully submitted the previous return The issue is that QBO on line as the default period as 1 April 19 to 30 June 19 but we deregistered the client @ 31 May 19 and that is the period HMRC are waiting for by 7 August 19

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

I have set up MTD on the HMRC web site and then went into the QBO VAT settings to enable MTD. It asked if my client was eligible for the MTD pilot but as this VAT return is for the period after 1st April it is for MTD live. Do I need to say yes just to fool QBO into processing the VAT return using the MTD rules?

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hi @joolz,

Thanks for joining us at the MTD VAT clinic! The way MTD works is that HMRC send us the dates that they're expecting, so the dates you've mentioned should be the ones that they've sent us.

This being said, I want to check what's happening in the background - could you PM me with the company ID number and VAT registration number please?

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hi @SPHBookkeeper,

Thanks for joining us at the MTD clinic this morning. We are currently in the process of changing our in product messaging, so you may still see some references to the MTD pilot but the process is the same now that MTD is live so you can procced as if there was no reference to the pilot.

Please also leave feedback about this in product as we are always looking for ways to improve QuickBooks.

Cheers,

Chris

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

My VAT return doesn't show EU sales in BOX 8. I have recorded them as ECS (services supplied). What should I do?

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hey @Angelika Sara,

Thanks for your question!

We wouldn't expect to see ECS posting to Box 8, as that line is used to track the sale of goods. ECS codes post to Boxes 1, 4, 6, and 7. ECG on the other hand would post to 2, 4, 8, and 9.

To your knowledge, is ECS the correct code to use?

Cheers,

Craig

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hi everyone, I have just registered my client for MTD today but I'm getting a message in QuickBooks that says 'Cannot connect to HMRC'. What should I do? Thanks

Re: MTD VAT Drop-in Clinic

Hi @IzzyG, Thanks for joining us at the MTD drop in clinic!

If you've just set up your client you'll need to wait until you receive a confirmation email from HMRC which can take up 72 hours.

Once you've received the confirmation email, you shouldn't have any further problems. I've also included a help article with everything you need to know here.

Cheers, Alex :smileyhappy:

MTD is set up but vat return blocked as HMRC new online account not looking for the return to June 19. It seems to have missed this return and is now looking for Sept 19 only. Old Vat account looks fine showing the march return submitted??? was told to wait a week for it to update... still not changed

Hi @battransport99 - thanks for joining us at the MTD drop in clinic!

There will be a message in the top right of your VAT screen with a 'Learn more' or 'Go for it' option highlighted in green - this will let let you know why the connection is blocked. If you're not able to resolve using these instructions, just let me know and we'll see where to go from there.

Thanks, Alex :smileyhappy:

Hi Alex, Thanks for your reply. We know why it is blocked it is because HMRC is not, for some reason looking for the June return so there is no submission request for Quickbooks to match to. It has jumped to the Sept return. I have called HMRC twice and they have no idea why it is doing this and the MTD team has not been available to help I have just been told to try again later.

We recommend following any advice HMRC has given in this instance - once they've resolved this, they'll be able to send us the correct information and you'll be able to submit.
