Hi

I have tried to submit my 2nd VAT return digitally, the first one was fine, this time it states it is blocked, I have followed the link on the quickbooks page

We can’t connect to HMRC right now

Let’s check a few things out to get you back on track.

 

I have done this twice leaving the 72 hour time in between and still it has not been unblocked, I have checked that my settings are correct too, can you please advise

I have filed our VAT return before with MTD but this time it is telling me it is blocked and can't connect and that we need to sign up for MTD even though we already are? Thanks

Ive been having trouble submitting march-may VAT return. I have spoken to HMRC and Quickbooks and came to the conclusion that there has been a problem HMRC's end with MTD, and that they will not charge a penalty when resubmitted late. Also the gateway account and Quickbooks weren't matching up correctly. That VAT period then had a rejected status on QB's and they have said it will be undone or something so I can resubmit. I have tried to resubmit and I am still having the same problem. What is the best thing for me to do?

Hi, Im using quickbooks from 2019 but for some reason I have open VAT return in quickbooks for Oct-Dec18 which of-course doesn't match HMRC records How can I resolve this? Thanks

Hi @yang , thanks for posting to the Community.

 

This is happening because your previous return has not been marked as filed in QuickBooks. You can click on 'prepare return' against the open return and change the dates manually to match what has already been submitted to HMRC. Once you've changed the dates, you can mark the return as 'filed'. You should see the option to mark as 'filed' on the bottom right hand side of the VAT summary screen. 

 

Once the return has been marked as 'filed', you should see the correct dates being returned from HMRC for your next eligible VAT return.

Morning - I am continually getting an error saying it cannot connect . I logged onto HMRC to ensure I was registered ... and I am but I now think I linked to my wrong my wrong tax account. Can my tax section of Quickbooks be reset so I can link them again please. thanks

Hello Sarah,

 

You can disconnect MTD and then reconnect, which will allow you to enter the HMRC account details again. You can do this by going to the cog wheel > account & settings > advanced and select the Making Tax Digital section. Select 'Learn how to disconnect' and follow the steps. Once disconnected, select the same section to reconnect. It should then prompt you to login to HMRC again.

Submitted my second return to HMRC (first one went no problem). Although I have received an email confirmation, it is still listed as "pending" in Quick Books?

How should you record expenses where you are charged VAT but they are not eligible for VAT reclaim for instance client entertaining?

Hi I am struggling with mtd. . my figures are all ok, but I have a list of open transactions on the page which are not relevant . I need to get rid of these.... HOW???

Hello nandnroadmarkers,

 

Open transactions only show if you have switched from the Standard to Cash VAT accounting scheme, or vice versa. Did this happen?

hiya, we have invoices dated the 1/6/19, but havent been paid till july, but they are showing on the vat detail report. is there any was of setting it up that invoices arent shown on the vat till they are paid? e.g. the 1/6/19 invoice shows in next quaters vat return. Cheers

Hi @mike-irwin, thanks for visiting the MTD drop in clinic! It sounds like you might have the 'Standard' option selected for the VAT accounting scheme. To change this go to the 'Taxes' screen and head to the 'Edit VAT' option in the top right and select 'Edit VAT Settings'. From here you can select the 'Cash' option for the VAT accounting scheme. Alternatively, if it's just the report you want to change rather than the businesses VAT accounting scheme, when you're in the VAT detail report you can select whether you want to run the report using cash or accrual accounting method. simply click the preferred method which in this instance would be 'Cash' then run the report. We have registered for MTD and submitted our return in April successfully. However, we have been unable to submit our VAT return for April to June, which we need to do as we are closing the business and it is our final return . We have spoken to your support team on two occasions and they acknowledge there is a problem with MTD and we are on a list of companies who have reported this problem. HMRC says we cannot file the old way so we are reliant on QB but it has so far taken over a month and there is still no resolution to this problem. We need to get it resolved so that we can complete the closure of the business and it seems that QB has no idea when that will happen. We are obviously late filing as well, so have also needed to deal with HMRC on this. Can somebody at QB please let us know what is happening and clear the problem so that we can file our return.

Hi, I have registered for making tax digital but HMRC have asked me to speak to you to authorise my software for MTD use and create a link between the software and HMRC? Could you please advise how I do this?

Vat status-blocked don not know why it's happening. We have the MTD signed up confirmation from HMRC though.
