Assign a foreign currency or multicurrency to a customer

Certain customers need to be assigned a foreign currency. To enable this feature, you must turn on Multicurrency, which is only available in QuickBooks Online Essentials and Plus.

Note: You cannot change the currency for an existing customer. You will need to create a new customer with a different profile and be sure to select the foreign currency during creation.

Assign a foreign currency to a customer

  1. Select Sales, then select Customers.
  2. Select New customer.
  3. In the Customer information window, fill out the applicable information.
  4. Select Payment and billing.
  5. In the This customer pays me with field, select the customer's currency. This is the currency that the customer uses to pay you for products or services.
  6. Select Save and close.

Create a new customer in a sales form and assign a foreign currency

Here's how to create a new customer in a sales form and assign a foreign currency:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select All Sales.
  2. Select New transaction, then select the sales form you need.
  3. Select Choose a customer, then select Add New.
  4. Enter the customer's name and select the applicable currency for your customer.
  5. Select Save and close.
  6. Complete the sales form and select either Save and close or Save and send to send it to your customer.

Now you're able to assign a foreign currency to your customer.
