Account receivable

Since converting from QuickBooks destop to QuickBooks online, any sales invoices I enter are incorrectly posting to VAT instead of Accounts Receivable (Sales Ledger Control) for sterling invoices.  It works correctly for US Dollar sales.

Since I don't think  you can journal to control accounts how can I correct this?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Annie H,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the QuickBooks Online Community!

In QuickBooks Online, VAT on the invoice should post to the VAT control account, unlike in Desktop where these posts to the A/R account.

What QuickBooks VAT code are you selecting on the invoice and does the transaction journal ('More' on invoice toolbar > Transaction journal) show this as posting to VAT Control?

Hi Georgia,

Sorry forgot to say - the transaction listing shows the sale posting as a debit to VAT (not VAT control) and a credit to sales with nothing to VAT control (which is right since this is Z zero-rated).  The debit should be to Sales Ledger Control (A/R) rather than VAT but why is it posting this way?  Any ideas?
