Can there be two tags?

Yes, you can assign multiple tags to a transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This feature allows you to effectively categorize and track transactions that fall under various categories or departments you wish to monitor simultaneously. Let me explain this further and discuss some important updates.

Moreover, significant changes including customers who have never used tags will no longer have the option to use this feature after May 19, 2025. Existing users who have used tags can continue to utilize them until May 19, 2028.

By May 16, 2025, tags will become read-only. This means you will be unable to create new tags or add tags for reporting purposes. Instead, you will need to migrate your tags to custom fields for tracking and reporting across all QBO plans.

As the deadline has passed, you'll need to convert your tags to custom fields manually. To do that, here's how:

  1. Head to the Gear icon, then Custom Fields.

  2. Click the Add field option.
  3. Input Name and choose the Data Type in the dropdown.
  4. Select category and the forms to display these fields.
  5. Hit Save once done.

After May 15, 2028, the ability to view tags and generate reports will no longer be available. Tags will be removed from QBO, and they will disappear from historical transactions.

Once everything looks good, it’s best to regularly review and reconcile your accounts to ensure they always match your financial statements.
