Error code 6069 & -6150, -1006 and sync manager corrupted

I had a call from QuickBooks to help fix a problem. They looked at some code and determined the problem related to this part:

}Communication Error ; Sync Manager is Corrupted. 78.9% database Damaged

Communication Error code 6069 & -6150, -1006 ;

They said we need to pay £500 to escalate the problem to their 'level 5 department' which sounds like a con..

I don't understand what the problem is, as we've never received errors when using QuickBooks Online and it appears to be working fine. Apparently the problem I queried has nothing to do with the errors that have been occurring behind the scenes.

Is there a way to fix the damaged database without needing 'level 5' technicians?

How do we prevent these errors occurring in the future?
