Sure, cleanbynaomi. QuickBooks uses your company address to determine which tax laws and currency defaults to apply.
We can verify the address of your company information from the Account and settings of your QuickBooks account. If these are set to a UK address but you see $, your home currency was likely set incorrectly during the initial setup. If you cannot enter a UK postcode or the "State" field is mandatory, you are likely using the US version of the software.
You can also look at the Legal information for Tax under the company info section.
If your account is in the UK version, you will see a section for VAT (Value Added Tax). It will ask for your VAT registration number and your "Tax office" details. If it's in the US version, you will see EIN (Employer Identification Number) or SSN (Social Security Number) fields. These are specific to US federal tax requirements.

Even if you are using the UK version, you do still see US$ mentioned in places, eg in settings, advanced, other options the currency format shows as $ (with options to tweak the format to show the dollar at the start or end) but it ends up using £’s.
