Is there a way that an account practice can file their own CT600 through QB Accountant and not just their clients.?

Hello there, Clair.

Yes, you can file the CT600 for your own accounting practice through QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA). However, you must follow a specific workflow because the Pro Tax module is designed to look for clients.

First, you need to add your practice account as a client in QBOA, using your practice's legal name and details. This allows the Workpapers and Pro Tax features to access your firm's data.

Once added, you will need to prepare your annual accounts first. This includes gathering all relevant documents, such as invoices, receipts, and bank statements, and entering this information into QuickBooks.

Please note that you can prepare annual accounts in QuickBooks even if your accounting period exceeds 365 days. This allows you to file Corporation Tax returns for extended periods. However, please note that QuickBooks does not support accounts with year ends on or before April 1, 2023. For these cases, you will need to use a different method outside of QuickBooks.

To file the CT600 for your accounting practice, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Workpapers under YOUR BOOKS menu on the left side.
  2. Click Start return in Pro Tax. QuickBooks will automatically pull your mapped tax data from Workpapers. You have the option to Start a blank return if you'd like to enter data manually.
  3. Choose the client whose name matches your own.
  4. Select the year-end start and end date.
  5. Give the return a name.
  6. Once done, select Continue.

To further continue with the filing process, please follow the Steps 2-4 in this article: File your Corporation Tax return using Workpapers in QuickBooks Online Accountant.
