why are my tax reports for last year now showing as blank

We've got some troubleshooting steps to show the data for the last year's tax report in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), mcmconstruct23.

Once you've entered the transactions in QBSE, it will always show the information when running the report. Let's make sure we have selected the correct date range for the report. See the screenshot for your reference:

If you run the Tax Summary report, it will show your taxable business profit (income minus deductions) and totals for Schedule C and healthcare deductions. Then, ensure you review your income and expenses categories since it will not show up in the report if they are uncategorized.

If they are not correctly categorized, we can edit the transactions to show in the report. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Find the transaction you want to edit.
  3. Select the ▼ icon to expand the transaction.
  4. Edit the transaction name, add notes, or attach a receipt.
  5. To change the category, select the link in the Type or Category column. Then select a new category.
  6. When you're done, press Save.

To learn more about this one, check out this article: Categorise transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If the same thing happens, we need to check if other reports for the same period like Profit and Loss show data. This help identify if the issue is specific to Tax reports or affects other reports as well.

If it is, we recommend accessing QBO through an incognito window. This helps rule out any potential webpage issues. Here are the shortcut keys for opening an incognito window in various supported browsers:

  • Mozilla Firefox: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

After starting a new private browsing session, log in to your QBSE account and check if this resolves the report data problem. If it does, clearing your browser's cache will help the program run smoothly and eliminate technical issues. You can also try using other devices and supported browsers as alternatives.

Furthermore, aside from running reports, you'll be able to get transactions by exporting them. To learn more about this, check out this article for your guide: Export Transactions and Get Reports in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

We are one post away if you have any other questions about running your tax report or any QuickBooks-related concerns. This thread is also open for handling your bank and financial entries, mcmconstruct23.
