Manage your HMRC settings in QuickBooks Core Payroll and Advanced Payroll

Learn how to enter HMRC details into QuickBooks Online Core Payroll and Advanced Payroll, so you can submit accurate Real Time Information (RTI) to the HMRC.

Follow the steps below based on the payroll product you're using. To check your payroll subscription, sign into QuickBooks as a Primary admin. Go to Settings ⚙, then Subscriptions and billing.

In Core Payroll

  1. Select the gear icon ⚙, then select Payroll settings.
  2. Select pencil icon next to UK tax.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • Employer PAYE reference
    • Accounts office reference
    • Unique Taxpayer reference
  4. If you will be claiming Employment Allowance, select Yes, I qualify. If you're unsure if you can claim the employment allowance you should check with HMRC.
  5. If you are eligible for Small Employers' Relief, select Yes, I qualify. If you’re a new employer or unsure whether you qualify for Small Employer’s Relief, you should check with HMRC.


In Advanced Payroll

  1. Follow this link to complete the steps in product Open this link in a new window
  2. Under Business Settings, select HMRC Settings.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • Employer PAYE reference
    • Accounts office reference
    • Corporation tax Unique Taxpayer Reference
  4. If you are eligible for Small Employers' Relief, select Yes. If you’re a new employer or unsure whether you qualify for Small Employer’s Relief, you should check with HMRC.
  5. If you will be claiming the Employment Allowance, select Yes. If you're unsure if you can claim the employment allowance you should check with the HMRC.

If you need to report payroll information to HMRC on a regular basis, we recommend that you switch on RTI reporting in Advanced Payroll.
