Accessibility features in QuickBooks

Learn what features you can use to make your QuickBooks experience more accessible.

Our goal is to make QuickBooks more accessible to every person. Explore some of the accessibility features that make QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and QuickBooks mobile apps easier for everyone to use.

QuickBooks Desktop

QuickBooks Desktop is an accessible financial management solution. It provides the following accessibility features:

  • Support for high contrast settings.
  • Keyboard accessibility for easier navigation, including QuickBooks Desktop keyboard shortcuts for the most common tasks.
  • Simplified visual design for readability.
  • Scripting for third party assistive software (JAWS and Window-Eyes).
  • Documentation and virtual training for visually impaired (My Blind Spot).

The Voluntary Product Accessibility Template QuickBooks 2018 Pro, Premier, and Enterprise were created by a third-party.  It describes how QuickBooks Desktop accessibility features meet federal Section 508 Standards.

Mobile Screen Reader software

Intuit has worked closely with DeQue and My Blind Spot, two leading accessibility consultants, to provide an effortless experience for screen reader users.

You can download JAWS scripts from My Blind Spot. My Blind Spot also features QuickBooks tutorials and virtual lessons for screen reader users. Window-Eyes users can download the QB Enhance scripts from AI Squared.

For JAWS users, QuickBooks 2019 now providers better access by having:

  • Prompt announcement of windows and fields when they are accessed.
  • Clear window titles with the right workflow context.
  • Links converted to buttons which are accessible with the keyboard.

Applications for iOS and Android

QuickBooks applications for iOS and Android incorporate industry standards for accessibility.

QuickBooks applications have been tested with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack for Android. Intuit has also created a series of videos explaining how to use QuickBooks and VoiceOver to run your business.

QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online is a dynamic web application. It works seamlessly with QuickBooks Mobile applications and provides:

  • Simplified visual design for readability.
  • Keyboard accessibility for easier navigation, including keyboard shortcuts for QuickBooks Online for the most common tasks.
  • Font resizing and support for screen zooming software.

QuickBooks Mobile apps provide the most accessible experience for QuickBooks Online screen reader users.

Go Payments

The GoPayment apps for iOS and Android have been designed with industry standard practices. This was done to ensure an accessible experience for retailers and their customers.

  • The standard GoPayment credit card swiper uses the device’s headphone jack. This prevents the user from operating the device's screen reader during the card swiping operation.
  • It's possible to use the device camera to scan a credit card and populate the details.
  • Temporarily disable the screen reader during the swiping operation. When the screen reader is disabled, you can accept cash and checks.
