Currently, there is no option in QuickBooks to change a name type from anything other than Other Names.
Examples:
- Changing a customer to a supplier or employee
- Changing a supplier to a customer or employee
- Changing an employee to a supplier or customer
There are two options available if you need to change a name type.
Option 1: Delete the name and recreate it under the proper name type. This works if no transactions exist for the name.
- Go to the Centre (Customer Centre, Supplier Centre, or Employee Centre) in which the name currently exists.
- Right click the name and select Delete (Customer:Job/Supplier/Employee).
Option 2: Make the name inactive and recreate it under the proper name type. Use this option if there are transactions associated with the name.
- Go to the Centre (Customer Centre, Supplier Centre, or Employee Centre) in which the name currently exists.
- Right click the name, and select Make (Customer:Job/Supplier/Employee) inactive.
IMPORTANT: Only Other Names can be changed to another name type (Customer, Supplier, or Employee) and once this change has taken place, the name type can no longer be altered.
