Is there a way to include the "description" from a transaction in the VAT detail report?
We make purchases from one supplier, some of which we can claim back VAT on and some of which are zero rated. In the "Description" field when posting the payments we have included the details of the items purchased.
The only information included in the VAT detail report in the column "Memo / Description" is the "Memo" field which relates to the whole purchase, but the "Description" field which relates to the line item is missing.
We need to see the "description" to properly check our VAT return. How do I get this fieldinto the Memo/Description column? The column heading on the report implies that it should be there?
Welcome to the Community - thank you for your question!
Currently only the memo of the transaction will show - please use the feedback tool under the cog wheel within your account to suggest this feature to the developers. They will then look into implementing this in future updates, if possible.
Thanks for your reply. It seems a bit ridiculous that this field is not in the VAT detail report when it appears in the equivalent reports in Xero, Sage, VT accounts, etc.
Currently the report works this way as it s designed to show the data at a transaction level. As transactions can have multiple lines/descriptions associated, this could cause the report to display an overload of information. We agree that the option to choose to see this would be handy to have, and appreciate all feedback left.
As a work-around,if you would like a report that does show the description, you could try the 'Transaction list with Splits' report. You can customise the date range to view tax periods and include the tax amount paid.
Thanks for your work-around. I have tried the report that you suggested, but it doesn't show the % of VAT applied to each line item, and I can't see an option to add this field.
The VAT% is not easy to calculate for a whole quarter's VAT return, as the format of the report doesn't show the underlying net purchase amount next to the VAT amount.
Therefore, I'm afraid that your suggestion doesn't work.
