How to take personal expense as a dividend in the QBO?

I bought a car on the weekend and had to use my business card. The car is for personal use. I spent just over £140000 and I need to split that payment between my wife and I for dividend payments. How would I do this on Quickbooks as only shows as one payment on the card.

How to take personal expense as a dividend in the QBO?

Hello, reena.

When it comes to splitting a car payment between you and your wife for dividend payments in QuickBooks Online, there are several steps that you can follow to ensure accurate tracking of expenses and allocation of dividend payments. Here's a detailed guide to help you through the process:

  1. Create a Journal Entry: Click the + New and choose the Journal entry to create a new one.
  2. Allocate the Expenses: You must allocate the expenses accurately within the journal entry. Debit the specific expense account, such as "Car Purchase" or "Vehicle Expenses," for the total amount of the car purchase (£140,000). Then, credit the corresponding equity account for your share of the dividend payment and your wife's share of the dividend payment.
  3. Specify the Split: In the journal entry, you can specify the split between yourself and your wife. For example, if you want to split the payment equally, you would credit your equity account for half of the total amount (£70,000) and your wife's equity account for the other half (£70,000). Alternatively, you can split the payment in any way that suits your requirements.
  4. Save and Close: Once you have entered all necessary details in the journal entry, save and close it.

By following these steps, you can split the payment for the car purchase between yourself and your wife for dividend payments in QuickBooks Online. This will ensure that all expenses are accurately tracked and the dividend payments are allocated fairly.

However, consulting with a tax professional or accountant is always advisable to ensure that you accurately record and report your financial transactions per your circumstances and tax regulations.
