Collaborate with clients using the Work tab

Learn how to collaborate with clients using the features on the Work tab in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

The Work tab and the Client request feature lets you communicate with your clients from QuickBooks Online Accountant. You can also use this tab to share documents with your clients easily.

Note: You can use the Client Request feature only for clients with QuickBooks Online subscriptions.

Create a client request

Use the Create Client request tab to know your clients’ response on important matters like needed documents, due dates to set, or additional info on your request.

  1. From the left menu, select Work.
  2. Select Create client request.
  3. In the Create client request panel, enter a name for the request in the Request name field.
  4. Select the appropriate client from the Client dropdown list.
  5. Enter a Due date for the request.

    Tip: You can select a Status and enter the Details.

  6. Select Add document, and select a document to attach a document to the request. Then, select Close
  7. Select the Notify client checkbox to send a QuickBooks-generated email to the client regarding the request.
  8. Select Publish to client's QuickBooks to preview the email before sending it to the client.
  9. Enter the text of the email to send to the client in the Message field of the Preview email panel and select Publish and send email to complete the request.

Edit or update a client request

You can edit or update a client request to add comments, edit, or remove a document from the request.

  1. From the left menu, select Work.
  2. Select the client request.

    Tip: You can also update the Due date or Status fields.

  3. Under Documents, select Add document to attach a document to the request. For an existing document, select the Download ▼ dropdown, then select Download, Remove from request, or Delete to manage the document.
  4. Under Comments, enter any comments, response, or instructions for the client request. Then, select Post and email.
  5. Select Close.

Retrieve shared documents

All shared documents by clients are under the Shared documents tab of the Client and request card from your Work tab.

  1. From the left menu, select Clients.
  2. Select the name of the client to open the Client details page.
  3. Select the Shared documents tab.
  4. Locate the document in the Documents list.
  5. From the Actions column, select the ... icon then Download to download the document.

    Tip: You can select the link in the Request column to view or edit the client request, then select Close.
